Can You Drink Coffee with Veneers?
October 1, 2023
If you are ready to achieve a flawless smile with veneers, you don’t want anything to compromise your investment, like discoloration. If you’re a coffee-drinker, you know it can stain your enamel, but will it damage your veneers? Although veneers are stain-resistant, here are a few things you should know before pouring another cup.
How Veneers Work
A veneer is a customized thin shell that’s bonded to the front side of a tooth, instantly improving its color, size, and shape. Bonding veneers to the teeth visible when smiling corrects many imperfections at once, like stains, chips, and gaps.
You won’t require multiple procedures to address several flaws, which will save time and money. After just two appointments, you can have a dazzling smile that can last for a decade or longer with the correct aftercare, like brushing and flossing.
Can Veneers Stain?
Veneers are made of porcelain, which is stain-resistant. Your veneers shouldn’t change color if you care for them properly, like using a soft-bristled toothbrush and non-abrasive toothpaste. Abrasive dental products can scratch them, making your veneers look discolored. Food residue and plaque can get trapped in the small crevasse, which will affect their appearance and lifespan.
Although it’s unlikely your veneers will discolor, your underlying teeth are still vulnerable to stains. If your enamel darkens, it can show through your veneers.
Drinking Coffee with Veneers
If you need a cup of coffee to jump-start your day, your cosmetic dentist will recommend having it in moderation. Drink it through a straw to limit its contact with your teeth. It’s better to drink it all at once instead of sipping it throughout the day. The same rule should be used for any stain-causing beverages, like tea or red wine. If it can stain a white shirt, it can stain your teeth, including dark foods.
If you eat or drink anything that may stain, brush your teeth after you finish. If you can’t get to your toothbrush, rinse your mouth with water to remove residue.
Your beautiful smile can look its best for over a decade by giving your teeth and veneers the attention they need.
